This fall I was very fortunate to be able to spend 21 days in northern Quebec. Dale Naber, Greg Durward, Adrian Doucette and I booked a hunt there in 2000. I became friends with our guide, the owner of "Bowhunting Canada" Gerry Risser. He moved to Lethbridge that winter and we got together to visit a couple of times. One day Gerry came down and took my wife Sharon and I out to dinner. In the course of conversation he ask me if I would like an all expense paid trip to caribou camp for 3-4 weeks. He has two camps with six hunters each at the same time and needed some one to run a camp while he was at another. After I came to and picked my self up off the floor I quickly said yes! Then reality set in and I thought, "This will never work". All I could think of were the negitives. How will I ever get that much time off in a row at UPS?. Will my wife, who I love very much still be here when I get back? Will I miss a bunch of Montana hunting? Well after months of brown nosing, and kissing butt, and finding out I would only miss 7 days of Montana archery season, I was off!
I landed at camp 7 on Lake Tassey with six guys from Michigan. I think they were as apprehensive of me as I was of them. My fear of having a bunch of "dudes" in camp was soon laid to rest and I hope I helped make thier hunt more enjoyable with my hard work, good cooking and unlimited B.S. (bowman socializing)
